Zero

Winter is upon us here at the ranch. This week we enjoyed the lowest recorded temperature (by us, anyway) of about zero degrees Fahrenheit (-17.8 C).

Last night we had our first major winter storm dropping four inches (10 centimeters) of dry powder. We call it “Disney Snow” because the flakes are so large and impossibly dry — it feels like something you’d only experience at a theme park. It crunches loudly when you step on it, and feels like Styrofoam when you pick it up.

As it is always the case here, the sun usually comes up within a day or two and melts it all away. The dogs seem to be enjoying it to the maximum while it’s here, anyway.
